Reds
| Les Truffieres Coteaux du Languedoc- Montpeyroux 2006, Domaine d'Aupilhac. | Deep violet with intense aromas of vanilla, dark fruits and cocoa, and a rich palate that has an enduring and satisfying fullness. A fantastic find from southwest France that will warm and seduce. |
| Chateau St Ahon 2002, Cru Bourgeois. | Soft autumn fruits, damsons and blackcurrants, with a hint of sweet spice. Dry and full-bodied, with a firm tannic structure, and a long finish. Classic Cru Bourgeois that hints at much greater things. |
| Coteaux du Loire “Les Longues Vignes” 2005 Domaine Le Briseau | Made from Pineau d’Aunis, a grape as delicious as it is little known. Wild red fruit notes, smokiness, a dusting of black pepper, and a seductive waft of violets. Sinewy but graceful, and a real delight. |
| Atal Sia Corbieres-Boutenac 2005, Chateau Ollieux-Romanis. | No oak, but deep and intense with black fruits, liquorice and spice, and a smooth silky palate that cries out for lusty, heart-warming food. |
| Cuvee Prestige 2005, Chateau du Cedre. | Inky, spicy, chock full of red and black fruit, with smokey fig and liquorice flavours. Great example of the "black wine" of Cahors from low-yielding old vines. |
| Bierzo Tinto 2004, Bodegas Pittacum. | Intense colour, complex bouquet of red fruits, liquorice, spices and smoked cocoa. Dense and fleshy, with sweet tannins and a lasting finish, this wine is made from the Mencia grape, grown virtually nowhere other than here in Bierzo. Stunning. |
| Gotim Bru 2004. | Beautifully structured blend of Tempranillo/Cabernet/Merlot, with pervasive chocolate and vanilla notes, and 92 Parker points. A luscious wine from the lesser-known wine region of Costers del Segre. |
| Rioja from Bodegas Benito Urbina | Classic Rioja from the Rioja Alta produced with loving care by traditional methods, and with a great capacity for ageing. Urbina Crianza 2004 - Tempranillo and Graziano, deliciously smooth, ripe damson fruit, and subtle oaking. Urbina "Seleccion" 1998 - The addition of Mazuelo and further ageing gives more complex, caramelised aromas. Urbina Gran Reserva Especial 1994 - Refined, long-lasting, as polished as beeswaxed mahogany furniture in a stately home. |
| Chianti Classico Riserva Caparsino 2004, Tenuta Caparsa. | Sangiovese and Canaiolo matured for 16 months in oak. Cherries, violets and great complexity, held in check by firm tannins and racy acidity. Very classy. |
| Granato, Vigneti delle Dolomiti Rosso IGT 2004, Foradori. | Huge but subtle, intense yet lingeringly delicate, savoury but with wonderful dark fruit. A gentle giant that has a feminine touch from an all-woman vineyard in Campo Rotaliano. |
| Lagrein 2006, Georg Ramoser. | A dense ruby red, nosing of coffee and berries, with big sweet tannins, and great minerality. Air it well and succumb to its mysteries. |
| Sagrantino di Montefalco 2001, Paolo Bea. | Dark purple with a powerful nose of raisined berries and smoke, that unfolds an array of wild flavours on the palate, filling the mouth with earthy, chocolatey sensations and a finish of blackberries. Silky, muscular, amazing. |
| Catena Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Mendoza | Full-bodied, with rich, dark, cassis-scented black fruit, and a warm, spicy finish, this is a smoothly satisfying customer from Argentina. |
| Salentein Malbec 2006, Bodegas Salentein | Intense burgundy colour, with sweet aromas of raspberry and aromatic herbs. A great contrast to the Malbec wine from Cahors that pampers the palate. |
| La Secreto Carmenere 2007, Colchagua. | Aromas of fragrant herbs, with a palate of black cherry and bittersweet chocolate, and a long rich finish. Beautiful Chilean carmenere, that draws you in to its secrets. |
| Luddite Shiraz 2004. | One of Stellenbosch's biggest and best. Tons of fruit, New World Syrah with Old World character, great weight and finish. |
